General information only
Articles, guides and calculators on this site are general information. They aren't tax, legal or accounting advice for your situation. Reading them, using a calculator or sending an inquiry doesn't create a client relationship. A client relationship begins only when we both sign an engagement letter. I take on work outside California only after confirming that the state filing requirements are within my scope, so a page that discusses another state's rules isn't an offer to work there.
Information may be out of date
Tax law, rates and accounting standards change. Each article shows the date it was written or last reviewed and the authority it relies on. Check that the rules still apply to you before acting, and ask me if you aren't sure.
Calculators
Calculator results are estimates based on the inputs you enter and the assumptions each tool lists, including the tax figures for the year shown. They leave out facts that may matter for your return, and they aren't a substitute for a prepared return or a professional's review. Screenshots on this site use sample inputs, not any client's numbers.
Excel models
Models are sold as tools for qualified users. You're responsible for the inputs, for reviewing the outputs and for how you use the results. Each model has a disclaimer and authority tab listing the code sections and standards it relies on. Check that a model reflects the current rules before relying on it.
No guarantees
I don't promise a particular refund, tax savings or outcome. Past results don't predict future ones.
Sources and links
Where this site cites IRS publications, regulations, California law or other sources, that's only to show where a statement comes from. It doesn't mean the IRS, the California Board of Accountancy or any other body endorses this site. Links to government and other websites are provided for convenience. They don't imply endorsement, and I don't control their content.
